If you don’t eat all your vegetables Toxic Black Mold (TBM) will come for you in the night!
Stachy is certainly the boogie man of mold! A variety of blogs, articles, and authorities have many deathly afraid of TBM. There is certainly strong evidence that Stachybotrys has and can cause many negative health effects. I’m not here to say its good. My suggestion is though is that rather than focus on one mold, realize that many species may be harmful to you, and to focus on one can be detrimental.
Chances are if your building or home has stachybotrys you have a long term or sever moisture problem. Stachy seems to grow well in very damp conditions. Given an environment like that, chances are aspergillus/penicillium, cladosporium, and other molds have been growing for a good while before the stachy became apparent.
Aspergillius/penicillium and other molds can impact your health without a single spore or stachy. People with pre-existing respiratory conditions, allerigies, suppresssed immune systems, or allergic to penicillum–may be particularlly sensitive to these molds. Aspergillius is somewhat less hydrophillic than stachy, and has a smaller spore size both dehydrated and hydrated, and may become airborne with greater ease.
In any event, water intrusions problems should always be corrected. It is somewhat short-sighted to assume that the asbsence of stachybotrys or TBM is a greenlight or gaurantee that there no mold-related health hazards at a property. Common sense should prevail when at risk persons, or symptomatic invidiuals are present at a mold-impacted property. Persons who believe there health is being negatively affected by mold should make informed decisions with the guidance of their Doctor or health care proffessional.
